On the obelisk side of things did you ever see the drawings of when they re-erected the obelisk in front of St. Peter's? It's pretty amazing. http://bit.ly/YAmW5b http://bit.ly/YAn04R http://bit.ly/YAnlV5

Re: A Tiny Tiny Roman Forum

Hi Crystal, thanks for the trackback. So much to see...you've been to Rome.

Re: Italia in Primavera

How interesting. I'm so shocked to hear that! We hear that about Milan a lot, but not Florence. EVERY single person we speak to says Florence is the absolute best place to go and we should essentially skip everywhere else! Even my Italian friends say that! And for my Cinquecento research, Florence really is the center of it all. Also, at some point we need to go to Monte St. Angelo in Puglia where my mother-in-law's family is from, but that is definitely a car, out in the hills trip, so we'll need to plan a bit more for that.

Re: Italia in Primavera

Mom spent three months in the area last spring. She loved and was surprised by Rome' but said she'd never go back to Florence. Skip it. Lucca is becoming a tourist place - been there 4 times. Go to Radda. Montepulciano, Pienza are great. Mom goes every year for weeks and knows what's great and not filled with tourists.

Re: Creativity Begets Creativity: The Writing Group

I'm so happy to be one of "The Women" in our writing group. I use Evernote a lot for recipes as well.

Re: Researching the Historical Fiction Novel: The Tools

I love Moleskine- blue for me! I haven't been able to really get into Evernote- but I should. My favourites/bookmarks are a horrible mish-mash now, and I almost never use them because it's easier to just Google things now.

Re: Fun facts about Renaissance Italy

I want to know how they would know if the deer is "becoming pregnant!"

Re: Fun facts about Renaissance Italy

Regarding the recipe, some would have a field day with '... begins to become pregnant.' Making sure you don't doom your child from the start! I really wish I could have learned Latin way back when, but growing up on the West coast they weren't offered. I'm learning Italian now though, so that will have to do. :)

Re: A new trend? I'm semi-obsessed with the name Octavian thanks to 3 years of Latin classes. I also really like Hephestian and the Biblical Hezekiah. Fortunately I have the foresight to realize that I don't want my kid to be beaten up on the playground.
